In recent years, scholars have raised concerns on the effects that unreliable news, or “fake news,” has our political sphere, and democracy as a whole. For example, propagation of fake news social media is widely believed to influenced outcome national elections, including 2016 U.S. Presidential Election, 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. What drives an individual level, which interventions could effectively reduce rate? Our model disentangles bias from truthfulness article examines relationship between these two parameters reader’s own beliefs. Using model, we create policy recommendations for both platforms users spread untruthful highly biased news. We recommend sponsor unbiased truthful focus fact-checking efforts mild moderately friend suggestions across spectrum, provide with reports about alignment their feed. fact check strongly aligns belief read articles opposing bias.
